A good read。 A dysfunctional-family upbringing resulting in a successful career。

I read Katy Tur's first book "Unbelievable" so I really enjoyed this new book "Rough Draft" 。 Rough Draft shares Kate's journey as she comes to understand the impact of her family of origin and how she has sometimes lived in reaction to that upbringing。 I think many will enjoy this story! Thanks to NetGalley for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review。 I read Katy Tur's first book "Unbelievable" so I really enjoyed this new book "Rough Draft" 。 Rough Draft shares Kate's journey as she comes to understand the impact of her family of origin and how she has sometimes lived in reaction to that upbringing。 I think many will enjoy this story! Thanks to NetGalley for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

Katy Tur has a little edge to her as a reporter that I’ve never been fond of。 I read a review of this book and decided to read it。 I now understand how her growing up experience influenced her。 I have a new found respect for the on the spot reporting Katy does。 It is not an easy life。

I like Katy Tur and watch her on MSNBC。 I read her previous book about being the NBC reporter embedded with our last president's campaign for that office。 I liked that a lot。Katy has had an interesting life, starting with going along with her parents' reporting from a helicopter over Los Angeles when she was as young as four。Not a bad read。 I like Katy Tur and watch her on MSNBC。 I read her previous book about being the NBC reporter embedded with our last president's campaign for that office。 I liked that a lot。Katy has had an interesting life, starting with going along with her parents' reporting from a helicopter over Los Angeles when she was as young as four。Not a bad read。 。。。more

Totally worth the read。 She’s smart and tenacious; vulnerable and wounded。 In other words, all of us。 And a gifted writer。

Good book… Very honest, witty, and Katy knows how to tell a story!

I knew very little about journalist Katy Tur or her parents or her famous husband before starting this book but I found this memoir absolutely unputdownable。 Tur’s unconventional childhood included working alongside her journo parents, who were famous for trailing OJ’s white Bronco in their news helicopter。 Her explosive and abusive Dad was a strong and magnetic force in her life throughout her childhood and adult years until one day calling her up to tell her he was transitioning to female。 Tur I knew very little about journalist Katy Tur or her parents or her famous husband before starting this book but I found this memoir absolutely unputdownable。 Tur’s unconventional childhood included working alongside her journo parents, who were famous for trailing OJ’s white Bronco in their news helicopter。 Her explosive and abusive Dad was a strong and magnetic force in her life throughout her childhood and adult years until one day calling her up to tell her he was transitioning to female。 Tur, who previously wrote a book on spending a year on the campaign trail with Donald Trump - a bestseller I now feel compelled to read - is a natural storyteller with a journalist’s inclination to always tell a fair and balanced account。 This was a great vacation read。 。。。more

I really enjoyed Katy’s book。 I’m a big fan of her , but I found out there was a lot of problems with her family 。 It’s a very read I recommend this book。

4。5 stars。 Really interesting and enjoyable read and didn’t realize her parents were LA helicopter news reporters who broke the news of Reginald Denny and OJ Simpson’s Bronco chase along with other notable video stories。

Good job!Maybe writing this book was for yourself more than it was for any of us。 Yet。 You'll never know how your words have piloted people you haven't met。 Thanks, Katy Tur。 Good job!Maybe writing this book was for yourself more than it was for any of us。 Yet。 You'll never know how your words have piloted people you haven't met。 Thanks, Katy Tur。 。。。more

I've been a Katy Tur fan since she first covered the trump campaign in 2015/2016。 Read and enjoyed her first memoir and enjoyed this one was well。 Nothing here that is life-changing, but well written, well told and just an interesting look at her and her views about journalism。 And having a trans-dad certainly makes her story unique。 I've been a Katy Tur fan since she first covered the trump campaign in 2015/2016。 Read and enjoyed her first memoir and enjoyed this one was well。 Nothing here that is life-changing, but well written, well told and just an interesting look at her and her views about journalism。 And having a trans-dad certainly makes her story unique。 。。。more

Have followed Katy’s ascent on MSNBC and thrilled to read more about her story。 A great reporter and even wilder memoir。 Totally unexpected, but a truly amazing read。 Her Dad is whack; that’s all I gotta say。

I don't usually read too many memoirs, but I was intrigued by this title because I am a former journalist。 We've all seen Katy Our delivering the national broadcast news on television – but who knew she had such a storied bringing up as the daughter of parents who flew the helicopter gathering footage of the O。J。 Simpson chase? I had also not previously read Tur's book, "Unbelievable" about the Trump campaign, but I would consider doing so because I enjoyed the author's writing style。 There's I don't usually read too many memoirs, but I was intrigued by this title because I am a former journalist。 We've all seen Katy Our delivering the national broadcast news on television – but who knew she had such a storied bringing up as the daughter of parents who flew the helicopter gathering footage of the O。J。 Simpson chase? I’ve admired Katy Tur, since observing how she handled herself when 45 singled her out and did his best to make her life miserable。 Somehow, though, I missed a lot of the baby-making years, despite watching MSNBC almost exclusively。Reading Katy’s writing is like sitting down with a friend, and letting her fill you in on all you missed since you last got together。 She seems open and direct, and is quite open about her fears and “imposter syndrome。”I must add I thought I came from an unusual upbri I’ve admired Katy Tur, since observing how she handled herself when 45 singled her out and did his best to make her life miserable。 Somehow, though, I missed a lot of the baby-making years, despite watching MSNBC almost exclusively。Reading Katy’s writing is like sitting down with a friend, and letting her fill you in on all you missed since you last got together。 She seems open and direct, and is quite open about her fears and “imposter syndrome。”I must add I thought I came from an unusual upbringing, but Katy’s childhood experiences make mine sound almost normal。So impressed。Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC 。。。more

I love watching Katy Tur on MSNBC。 This book was very hard for me to get into…。。I was disappointed。

Katy Tur does it again with a fascinating, fun, unique read。 I enjoyed the personal sections about her childhood and relationship with her mother & father the most。 I could have done without the few chapters related to Trump & her media job in 2016-ish, as this was covered in the first book。 Overall。 I'd recommend this to anyone, whether interested in media or not, as Katy writes honesty and personally。 I read this in one sitting。 Thanks to #netgalley for the copy! I read this book because I had read her other book about interviewing Trump and being brought into the White House after his unexpected win。This book was interesting。 She goes into her past and her toxic relationship with her father。She got interested in becoming a reporter by watching her mother and father record breaking news from their helicopter in the 90’s。Interesting but I don’t know that I’d go out of my way to recommend it。

Fascinating, funny, relatable。

Received Katy Tur's memoir as a Goodreads Giveaway, which meant it sailed to the top of my TBR stack。 It proved to be a very interesting and engaging read, as I had next to no knowledge of Tur's background or her family history。 Her fraught relationship with her father and how that has influenced many of her personal and career decisions explains a great deal about both her reporting style and her ambition。 Her obvious respect for her mother and the lack of recognition she received is understand Received Katy Tur's memoir as a Goodreads Giveaway, which meant it sailed to the top of my TBR stack。 It proved to be a very interesting and engaging read, as I had next to no knowledge of Tur's background or her family history。 Her fraught relationship with her father and how that has influenced many of her personal and career decisions explains a great deal about both her reporting style and her ambition。 Her obvious respect for her mother and the lack of recognition she received is understandably heartwarming, while providing greater clarity to Tur's own backstory。 Journalism truly is the first draft of history。 。。。more

Straightforward。 Honest。 A little messy。 Fantastic telling if the life of a journalist during these weird times in the US。 I'd definitely would love to have a beer with Katy。 Straightforward。 Honest。 A little messy。 Fantastic telling if the life of a journalist during these weird times in the US。 I'd definitely would love to have a beer with Katy。 。。。more

I liked this book a lot。 Katy Tur is an interesting character, and she really lets her readers see her, sharing painful moments, as well as growth and change。 The book is at its best when she confesses her doubts and struggles。 That causes us to stay with her as she shares also her successes and fairy tale luck in love。 We know it was all hard won。 Fascinating to me is her absolute addiction to being at the front when news breaks。 She hates to miss her front row seat to the events of the day。 Th I liked this book a lot。 Katy Tur is an interesting character, and she really lets her readers see her, sharing painful moments, as well as growth and change。 The book is at its best when she confesses her doubts and struggles。 That causes us to stay with her as she shares also her successes and fairy tale luck in love。 We know it was all hard won。 Fascinating to me is her absolute addiction to being at the front when news breaks。 She hates to miss her front row seat to the events of the day。 That drive, not one I share, was something I’d want to dissect。BTW, I’ve read and given a very lukewarm review to her book about the Trump campaign。 Missing all of the personal details that flesh out this book, it just felt very superficial to me。 Now, with this book, I know it was in fact just a breezy account of Trump’s opening act。 I’d love her to go back and identify the events and occurrences that were foreshadows of the years we’ve lived through since then。 。。。more

Very interesting。 The author reflects many of my thoughts of what is happening in our country at this time。 Learned a number of things about the news business。 I was unaware of her family background and I feel bad about her father’s attitude。 I do wish she had talked about the birth of her daughter and how she currently manages two small children and her career。 Worth reading。
